Our History

A visit at the Old Bank Cafe is always an experience nothing short of lovely! The friendly staff and homemade food never fails to leave customers feeling warmed and welcomed! The unique interior of the cafe is always a conversation starter, and is themed after the preceding businesses that occupied the building - primarily Molson's Bank and the Bank of Montreal.

In the early 1860's, the building currently known as the Old Bank Cafe was a colonial store. It was known as the local general store - selling practical and essential everyday items. Sadly, the building burned down - cause unknown; leaving behind only the foundation of the building.

Molson's Bank was built on the foundation of the colonial store in the late 1800's. This is when using the corner of the building as an entrance began.

From 1916-1970 the building was utilized by the Bank of Montreal. Though the bank moved into the building across the street, they kept the original building until 1976 - likely for file storage.
In 1976 the building was sold to lawyer based out of Toronto, and he proceeded to lease it out to many businesses as the years passed - notably, an insurance building that utilized the building up until 1990.

In 2011, Pavla Hoca bought the building and spent the next seven years renovating it into the space we all know and love - the Old Bank Cafe. The coffee shop opened on May 10, 2019.
